In the garden of my house there's a tree with lots of randomly grown twigs. It looks odd and nice at the same time. One day I asked myself if I could create a piece of music with it.

To tune the tree I picked a fundamental note and tuned the twigs by trimming them with a pencil sharpener. I used two Røde NT6 and a NTG-2 as microphones, combined with a customized stethoscope.

I recorded the tracks live on a Pro Tools LE system. I didn't use any synthesizer or sampler to create or modify the sounds. All the sounds come from playing the tree, by bowing the twigs, shaking the leaves, playing rhythms on the cortex and so on.

Konzerte sind ja bekanntlich antiquiert und durch ihre Überlänge (more than 140 characters!) auch kaum mehr zu verarbeiten, ich weiß. Aber was Clara Luzia gestern im WUK auf die Bühne und in den Raum zauberte, war so etwas von Gegenwart, wie man sie in Twitter-verseuchten Environments nur mehr aus Erzählungen kennt. Ein Rohdiamant, der hoffentlich nie geschliffen wird (denke dabei sofort an Häuserschleifungen). Ein Lachen. Funkenflug. Aus den Ufern tretende Phrasierungen mit Pauken und Trompeten. Episch dimensioniert aber bescheiden dargeboten im Pixiebuch-Format. Ein Abend - ein Fest. Danke. Danke. Danke. Auch wenn man am Ende stinkt wie ein "Häusltschik".

Seit einigen Tagen betreibe nun auch ich, ein Twitter-Opponent der dritten Stunde, mein eigenes Twitter-Service. Warum ich das mache, ist einfach erklärt: 1) weil es Sinn und 2) weil es keine Arbeit macht. Die Arbeit, wenn es eine ist, passiert auf Hype Machine, einer ziemlich neuen Musik-Plattform, wo ich Musik höre und ab und an den Favorite-Button presse, wenn sie mir gefällt. Der Rest - die Erstellung einer Hör-Historie auf Hype Machine (unter: http://hypem.com/coyote05) bzw. der Eintrag des Micro-Blog-Posts auf Twitter (unter: http://twitter.com/siniweler) - erfolgt automatisch. Meine Priorität ist also die, dass ich mir selber folgen kann - mit dem schönen Nebeneffekt, dass auch andere Menschen - mit ähnlichem Musikgeschmack - diese Audio-Spur durch die Zeit (als "Follower") syndizieren können.

Ein Danke auch an Ulrike Reinhard für den Link. Sie führte auch ein Interview mit dem Hype Machine Gründer Anthony Volodkin, der darin den Unterschied zu anderen Musikplattformen folgendermaßen festmachte: "The Hype Machine differs from last.fm and Pandora in that instead of using algorithmic models that compute the best possible 'related music' to help people discover new music, we reveal existing activity around music on the internet (blogging) and let people discover new music by browsing, searching and exploring popular charts based on this data."

Manchmal braucht es eine Weile, bis man begreift, wozu Dinge taugen - wenn man davon absieht, dass sie gerade cool sind. So auch ging es mir bei Twitter: natürlich kannte ich einiges Beispiele für den sinnvollen Einsatz - vor allem in kleineren Einheiten (und nicht wie Scoble, der Paradeausbeuter seiner selbst, das macht). Aber weil ich nie ein Freund des Messaging war - fehlte mir bislang die Killeranwendung. Die Zeiten sind vorbei. Spätestens seit heute vormittag. Denn da saß ich im Auto und hörte nebenbei einen Song in FM4 - nebenbei merkte ich mir einige Textzeilen und dachte daran, ihn später zu googeln. Doch wider Erwarten verwiesen alle Suchergebnisse in die falschen Richtungen.

Mein Ausweg: das FM4-Twitter-Service: aufgerufen, Uhrzeit nachgeschaut - präzise Titel und Interpret gefunden - und dann rein ins Googeln. Diese Umweg hat Spaß gemacht. Super Service.

Da hat sich Nicholas Carr diesmal aber ganz schön in die Nesseln gesetzt - bewusst wie ich meine - indem er beim Thema Copyright und Künstlerrechte dem guten alten Billy Bragg die Stange hält. Und damit der saloppen Freeconomics-Denke eine klare Absage erteilt.

The saddest, stupidest sentence I've ever read bezieht sich auf eine Aussage von Mike Arrington (TechCrunch): "Recorded music is nothing but marketing material to drive awareness of an artist.", die er zuspitzend ergänzt: "As a printed poem, one assumes, is nothing but marketing material to drive awareness of a poet. As a sculpture is nothing but marketing material to drive awareness of a sculptor. As a film is nothing but marketing material to drive awareness of a director."

Auch diesmal versteckt unsere Meta-Kultur ihre Perlen wieder einmal in den Kommentaren, die dem Post von Nicholas Carr erst seine ganze Tiefe verleihen. Denn dort erfahren wir auch, was David Bowie, ein Musik-Entrepreneur des 21. Jhdts, zu diesem Thema vor bereits mehr als 5 Jahren wie folgt präzisierte:

"I don't even know why I would want to be on a label in a few years, because I don't think it's going to work by labels and by distribution systems in the same way. The absolute transformation of everything that we ever thought about music will take place within 10 years, and nothing is going to be able to stop it. I see absolutely no point in pretending that it's not going to happen. I'm fully confident that copyright, for instance, will no longer exist in 10 years, and authorship and intellectual property is in for such a bashing."

He even seems to have beaten Nick to the utility model for IT services as applied to music:

"Music itself is going to become like running water or electricity. So it's like, just take advantage of these last few years because none of this is ever going to happen again. You'd better be prepared for doing a lot of touring because that's really the only unique situation that's going to be left. It's terribly exciting. But on the other hand it doesn't matter if you think it's exciting or not; it's what's going to happen."
